Between Zachary's 3,000m race and the next race for the Sisu Project the 400m races went off. Anthony DiPaolo (Sisu's injured 400m specialists) is currently nursing a hamstring injury and could not attend the meet. Despite Sisu's absence from participation at the 400m, Sisu watched Fitchburg State athlete, Chauncey Beatty, throw down a 52.46 in the 400m invite for the men.
Next up on the track, Masters runner Jamie Aubuchon set a Sisu Project Masters record in the 600m, running 1:33.77, placing second in his heat of open athletes.
For Sisu, the action heated up again in the mile as Amanda Wright and Brandon Davis continued their quest to once again "be fast" by enduring this indoor season. Amanda Wright ran 5:25 in the Women's Open Mile, good enough to complete the first event in the USATF NE All Terrain Runner Series. Brandon Davis snuck under 5:00 minutes for the first time this indoor season, racing to the finish in a time of 4:57.61.
Johnny K and Maartje Basting also joined Amanda in tackling the first race of the ATR series. John ran a PR in the mile of 6:45.13. He ran hard around the yard track as teammates cheered from around the outside. We suspect this will put him in a good place among the master's division in the ATR series as he looks ahead to the next race on March 7th when he suits up in Snow Shoes!
Bastings was running her first track race ever! She finished the mile in a time of 5:52.46, breaking the 6:00 minute barrier and just shy of her goal of under 5:50. We know she has a lot of miles ahead of her and will break down the 5:50 barrier very soon. This time puts Maartje in a great place after the first event of the ATR series.
Sitting out for the 800m, Sisu watched the professional women racers run an "interesting" half mile race. Going out what might have seemed as ridiculously slow, Morgan Uceny of Adidas was able to run a 2:10.53 800m for the win the Women's 800m Invitational.
After the ladies in baby blue stepped off the track, Brandon Davis grabbed the baton from Amanda Wright and headed onto the track for the men's mile relay. Davis was joined by teammates Grasela, Aubuchon, and Rand who were ready to throw down sub-sixty second splits to set a new Sisu Project mile relay record for a total time of 3:51.49.
