Huge 5K PR for Clark, Germain wins USATF-NE 5K & Calahane takes 5th in Granby Duathlon
06/15/08

Perfect late spring weather brought out some great performances this week. Triathlete Pete Calahane cruised to a 5th place finish in the Granby Charter Day Duathlon (2.5 run, 16 bike, 2.5 run). Pete went out very strong, but took a wrong turn (trail race) and lost about 6 minutes on the leaders, but then turned in the 3rd fastest bike time and the fastest second run split to move from 28th overall all the way up to 5th. Nice job Pete! The final winner was less than 6 minutes ahead of Pete.

On the track at the USATF-NE Championships, Caitlyn Clark continued her recent assault on PR's, this time hammering the 5K in 17:00.32. Sisu teamate Laura Rudd also turned in a 5K PR, running 20:58.59.

On the men's side Matt Germain, inspired by Clark's determination, won the 5K in an impressive 15:17.36. Ryan Miller followed close behind running a season best time of 15:58.63.

Mastesr athlete, Jamie Aubuchon, placed 3rd in the 400M hurdles (63.6) and Discus (102-8).

May Round-up
06/10/08

We've had some incredible performances from several team members recently that deserve recognition!

I'm sure by now you all heard about Jeff Bartlett's assault on the 4 minute barrier in the 1500. He finished off his collegiate career with a 3:58 busting down that wall! After all the bumps in the road this young man had—what a perfect demonstration of SISU. Now that he is graduated, he can officially start posting some times for us!

Matthew Germain, Tim Cattogio, Caitlyn Clark, and John Rheaume took our SISU to downtown Haverhill at the Baldi River 5 miler. Each came home with the famous juice mugs to show for their efforts. Matthew and Tim took 2nd and 3rd overall, and 1st and 2nd in their age group (26:24, 26:48 respectively), John set a new PR (33:13) and easily won his weight division by finishing nearly 6 MINUTES ahead of the next competitor! Caitlyn came out with an overall first place, a PR, and a new course record with 29:24!

More impressively, if you've checked the forum, you may have also noticed that we had two members compete in the Keybank Vermont City marathon. Marc Leblanc finished an impressive 15th overall with a time of 2:40.52! Sumner Fletcher (the same Sumner Fletcher who ran the Boston Marathon, and Travs Trail race) Placed 10th female overall, and was just 40 seconds shy of running under 3:00!

Sumner decided not to stop there. She showed up with team spirit at the Rhody 5k the weekend directly following her Marathon. The mens and womens races were separate. Sumner and Caitlyn represented SISU in the womens race. Sumner ran 20:16 seconds finishing 54th, and Caitlyn ran 17:38 seconds finishing 4th and moving into 5th in the Grand Prix series. Ryan Miller and John Rheaume were also at the race running 16:27, and 21:15 respectively. There was a lot of cooperation and team work involved in this race and it was a great experience.

Pete Calahane Wins Lion's Club Sprint Triathlon
05/18/08

SP running team member and multisport machine Pete Cahalane took home the individual title at the Lion's Club Sprint Tri in Marlboro, MA. Pete says he lost time in the pool but made it up on the bike and closed with a 17:30 5K!

Not to be outdone, the Sisu Triathlon Team of Adam Malek, Corey Davis and Matt Germain tried their hand at multi-sport and came away with and effort nothing short of spectacular winning first place. Corey put in a such a great effort in the pool. He came out sprinting. No one else seemed as motivated to pass the chip to their bike leg! Matt rode the bike leg...his first experience racing a bike in 11 years and handed off to Adam Malek...who turned in one of the fastest running legs of the day bringing the team home to victory.

Sisu Women Dominate Trav's Trail Race!
05/18/08

What a great day!
At the Travs trail run (3 miles) in Newburyport. Laura Rudd, Sumner Fletcher, and Caitlyn Clark took on the challenging course. This was a very competitive race with 264 participants. All three placed in the top ten for women (Laura 10th, 21:03; Sumner 6th, 19:15; Caitlyn 2nd, 17:33).

Congratulations to Sumner on graduating from UVM! She chose running on her graduation day instead of walking... with all the prizes and raffles at this nike sponsored event (cool mugs, hats, bags, gift certificates, money etc.) Who could blame her!

Spring Track is Finally Here!
03/29/08

First of all, we would like to welcome our newest Sisu member John Rheaume. John recently won the An Cú Liath Irish Pub race in Worecster. Congratulations and Welcome!

Several Sisu runners have started their track seasons early by hunting down open meets that haven't been snowed out.

Worcester City Meet:
Many SISU Project members were present at the Worcester City Meet held at WPI. It was a windy, and snowy start to the day when Adam Malek kicked off the afternoon by placing 4th in the 1500 with a time of 4:21. Malek had high expectations of himself and returned to the starting line later for the 5000 meters with SISU members Louis Cote and Matthew Germain to show his true competitive spirit. He finished 3rd with a time of 16:17 and was closely followed by Cote and Germain who finished 5th and 6th respectively.

Caitlyn Clark also raced the 5000 that day adding another Worcester City title to her resume. She was able to run a PR of 17:43, a huge improvement of her previous best of 18:25.

RPI Meet:
On the same day, SISU Member Jeff Bartlett competed for Springfield at a meet held by RPI. Bartlett started off his season with a double in the 1500 and 800 clocking at 4:15, and 2:10. A great effort on a windy day, and an excellent start to the outdoor season!

USATF-Masters National Championships
03/29-31/08

Masters athletes Suzanne Williams and Jamie Aubuchon represented the Sisu Project well at the Masters National Indoor Championship hosted at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury Massachusetts.

Jamie Aubuchon turned in a strong Pentathlon (60MHH, LJ, Shot, HJ, 1000M) effort on Friday, scoring 2933 points to place 4th. Suzanne Williams followed up on Saturday taking home the bronze medal in the mile in 6:03.57 and also grabbed a 4th place finish in the 800M (2:41.81) on Sunday.

USATF-NE Open Championships
02/23/08

What a positive day yesterday. SP was out in full force at the USATF New England Indoor Championship. We certainly were the talk of the meet.

Sumner Fletcher in her first appearance as a member of the Sisu Project won the women's 5000 (18:16.65) with Laura Rudd finishing second (21:05.84) among club teams! Caitlyn Clark's victory in the women's mile (5:02.57) was inspiring. The Sisu Project can now boast two New England Champions and more importantly both of them were thrilled to be at the meet running for themselves as well as the Sisu Project. Suzanne Williams and Sumner also competed in the mile (6:01.33 and 5:39.53 respectively) and picked up team points. The duo of Suzanne and Sumner toed the line once again in the 800 meters (2:43.05 and 2:40.70 respectively) and it was just magical to watch them have such strong performances! This was Sumner's third race of the day making her an official Sisu Project superhero! Caitlyn doubled up in the 3000 meters where she finished a strong fifth (10:50.03)! Everyone left the track on sunday aware they were part of something special :)

After a two month layoff from competition, Jamie Aubuchon hopped into the Long Jump (17-3.5, a tune-up for the Master's Pentathlon next month) and then stepped on the track for an 800M, running a solid 2:05.41! Adam Malek competed in the mile (4:46.77) rounding out a fantastic season of multiple PR's for him! Matt Germain participated in the 5000 (15:40.53) and was spurred on by the phenomenal support everyone gave in such a competitive heat.

We especially want to thank our fantastic fans! Yvonne, Tiffany, Julie Paradis and Ryan all came out to support SP at this event. Their positive support fueled every one of our performances. The approach we take to this sport is starting to be recognized by anyone who comes in contact with us and I encourage you to use this to let your light shine in everything you want to accomplish.

In College DIII Championship action, Alyssa Brigham and Jeff Bartlett competed for Springfield College. Alyssa tripled with a 1200M leg of the DMR (3:47), followed by a 5:21 Mile, and then a 2:29 leg of the 4x800. Jeff Doubled... did the 1000m in 2:35 (2nd best) and did a 2:05 leg of the DMR.
